Description: A small tree with a spreading crown and short trunk occurring infrequently on rocky limestone slopes and open forests. The wings on the fruit (samaras) do not extend down the body and mature in late spring. It is closely related to and is sometimes difficult to distinguish from white ash. It is endemic to Texas and southern Oklahoma. The fruit is eaten by some birds and squirrels. Leaves may be browsed by white-tailed deer and some livestock. |
