Description: A medium-sized tree with a rounded crown. One of the dominant oaks in the Cross-Timbers ecotype. Leaves may vary in shape. The acorns are eaten by many species of wildlife. The foliage and twigs may be browsed by white-tailed deer and some livestock. Post oak is a member of the "White" oak group whose leaf veins do not extend past the leaf margin to form bristles. While often small and stunted, Post oaks can live 400 or more years. |
