Description: A medium-sized tree with a strong, short trunk and a spreading open crown. Common in wet soil along rivers, streams and in bottomlands. Although more common in eastern North America, it is often planted for shade elsewhere. Fruits (samaras) are numerous, large, and mature in the spring. Leaves are silvery white below. Sometimes planted as an ornamental in landscapes. |
