Description: A medium-sized tree with a short trunk and open, irregular crown. Adapted to a variety of sites and widely used as an ornamental shade tree. Leaves are very large and coarse. The larvae of the catalpa sphinx moth, better known as the "Catalpa worm," are excellent fish bait. These worms are usually active in late spring and can be frozen in cornmeal for later use. Also commonly called Catawba-tree. |
