Description: A medium-sized tree occurring on moist soil of floodplains and along streams. Although not the most desirable landscape tree, it is sometimes planted for shade. Box elder is in the same family as the maples because of its fruit characteristics. Leaves appear similar to poison-ivy, but are arranged opposite on the stem and often have 5 leaflets. |
