Description: A vine (sometimes high climbing) occurring on rich soil in thickets, woods and other partially shaded areas of uplands and bottomlands. Fruit matures bright red in the fall and is eaten by many species of birds. Browsed by deer in spring and summer. May also be used by some livestock. Plants with unlobed leaves superficially resemble Greenbrier (Smilax) but can easily be distinguished by the lack of prickles.
