Description: Often forms large clumps or dense colonies and can grow to heights of 10 feet. An important identifying characteristic is a triangular tuft of hair at the base of a leaf. Switchgrass is considered one of the dominant grass species in native rangeland. Switchgrass is found in low areas and moist soil as well as upland sites. It is very palatable to cattle and can provide cover for wildlife.
