Description: A common weed of heavily grazed rangelands, pastures and disturbed sites. The inflorescence is loosely flowered and the lemmas have awns 12-18 mm long. The herbage is usually softly pubescent. It provides forage in the early spring for some species of wildlife and is palatable to cattle in winter and early spring but lacks quantity.
