Description: A medium-sized tree occurring along streams or in swamps or on moist soils of bottomland and upland forests of eastern Oklahoma and Texas. In addition to the leaves being dull green and glabrous above and whitish and glabrous or pubescent below, red fruit (samaras) maturing in spring and sometimes red petioles are identifiable characteristics. The leaves and bark are poisonous to livestock. |
