Description: A small thicket forming to large tree found on wet soil along streams and rivers, sloughs or marshes. Bark is silvery gray to reddish brown, sloughing off into thick curly flakes. Sometimes used as an ornamental in landscape plantings because of its ability to grow in wet soil and its showy bark.
