Description: A shrub to small tree found abundant along streams and rivers on moist, sandy or silty soil. Is considered a weed in many areas because of its invasive ability, crowding out native plants, reducing biodiversity and possibly lowering the water table along streams. It is difficult to eradicate. Was introduced for erosion control and windbreak plantings. The common name Salt-Cedar was derived due to its ability to tolerate salt and its cedar-like appearance.
